Winner of Giveaway & progress

The Winner of the Giveaway announced on Sept 10th  is Teresa.
Congratulations and I'll be posting your goods tomorrow.
Hope you like them and make a project or two !

I progressed my Grace quilt but not to the point I can show you a photo.
In the meantime I have done another 12 little logcabin blocks I started earlier in the year to use up my small scraps.

These are my little blocks.... 37 done so far this year. Haven't decided when I'll stop making them them.

I also played with my Accuquilt Go fabric cutter and got a stack of squares and rectangles for a forthcoming project.

And now for some music...

Today I'm featuring another smooth jazz artist; Richard Elliot a saxophone player originally from Scotland.  I particularly like this song he did with Rick Braun playing the trumpet, its the title track called "RnR".

The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt & Show 'n Tell

I didn't really want to start a new quilt until at least I completed another top I have in progress but ... I did !
The excuse I gave myself is that I'm half-way with my current project (will blog when completed)  and because I'm having a few days vacation soon, I should be able to complete it.

At the quilt show I attend yesterday, I purchased the book...

And this morning I made 2 blocks !

They are machined pieced and a lot easier to do than the other two ongoing blocks I'm currently engaged on; The Civil War Bride and Barbara Brackman blocks.  I don't need to buy any new fabric for this project and I'll probably end up doing them with some of my reproduction fabrics or similar style fabrics.

Recently I received these lovely blocks from Jan-Maree, which are part of the monthly swap we do.  The colour is black and she produced stunning stars...

And lastly, I was having an email conversation with another blogger Gloria and the subject of Kaleidoscope quilts come up; I remembered that I had made one many years ago, so here it is...

The novelty fabric made really interesting centres for each block; I think it was a Debbie Mumm fabric.

I liked the way the quilting compliments the fabric design with the teapots.

That's all for the now...

Quilt Exhibition by The Australian Quilters Association

I have just been to my guild's exhibition. They have put on a fantastic show, so here is a sample  of some of their display.
If you live in Melbourne, you still have until tomorrow (Sunday 4pm) to go over and see their exhibition.
For more details check their website Australian Quilters Association.com and you may consider joining this great group.

And this is the raffle to be won...

I'm hoping to blog again tomorrow  with something new I want to start...
For those who haven't entered in the giveaway mentioned in the previous post, you can still enter...

And now some music.....

Please listen to this beautiful song called "Rapture" by another of my favourite Smooth Jazz guitarist, Tim Bowman originally from Detroit.

Blocks, a bag and a Giveaway

I'm gradually catching up on the Barbara Brackman's Civil War  Blocks.  I make 2 of each even number blocks and Susan (another quilter at work) makes 2 blocks each, odd number blocks. Then we swap with each other and this way we enrich our fabric choices and commitment to keep going and its a bit of fun since we both love civil war fabrics.

These are my blocks I completed recenty :

And these are the blocks Susan made me....

During the week I've been working on this stitchery...

And today I made this bag.

I don't think I have shown you this embroidered peacock I made a few years ago....
After several attempts of trying to take a photo of it, this is the best shot I could get. The flash kept on reflecting it back in the glass, so I can't show you the details I wanted.
As part of the embroidery which is mainly in pinks, mauves and lilacs, I added a lot of beads and am quite pleased with the results.

As part of the Giveaway, I have a kit of this design. The design is already printed on the black fabric, so you just need to get threads of your choice and start.. I am also including some fabric which I'll post to the lucky winner (anywhere in the world)..

To participate, all you have to do is make a comment on my daughter's blog, "Catgirls's Adventures". She created her blog all by herself at the same time I started mine and she was only 10 years old.
We'll randomly pick a name and I'll announce the winner on the 26th September on this blog and email the lucky person.
If you don't have a blog, please make sure you add your email address to the comment so I can get in touch if you are the winner.
Good luck to you all.

... And finally so music.

Dave Koz is an american saxophonist that has and continues to have a brilliant career in the Smooth Jazz genre. He has released many albuns and in October 2010, he performed "Start All Over Again" in a season 7 of "Desperate Housewives".

As I count the months until I attend some performances next year of Dave Koz and other artists please enjoy this performance with Dave Koz and Jim Brickman in "Partners in Crime".

Completed UFO - An Angels Story

I started this quilt many years ago and yesterday finished the top.

The photos are not of high standard but you can get an idea of what the quilt looks like.

It's called, An Angels Story, from the book by Anni Downs.

All the fabrics were leftovers from another quilt which I am currently hand quilting and haven't blogged about it, another one of those with lots and lots of hand applique...

Each block combines applique and embroidery.

Although its just a top at the moment, I consider it done as I'm not planning to quilt it in the near future. Perhaps one day when I get my quilting machine ...

And the good thing about it all is that I can tick off as one of my completed goals for this year.

...  Next I'm doing something completely different, all machine pieced queen size quilt. Photos will come once top is completed.

I also got some fabric yesterday to make something small for my mom's birthday in a couple of months's time.

And I'll continue with the ongoing projects: Barbara Brackman Civil War blocksCivil War Bride Quilt and  Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Quilt Show - Jo Morton

I had a lovely time attending "Quilts in the Barn" this morning at Wonga Park which is 29 km north-east of Melbourne.

The guest exhibitor was Jo Morton from Nebraska, USA. Jo  is a fabric designer, author, teacher and lecturer. Her quilts represent re-creations of antique quilts from the 19th century. Jo's work has been published in a number of quilting magazines and she has also appeared in a number of quilt quilting shows.

She kindly agree to allow me to photograph her in front of one of her beautiful quilts; this one is called "Winterberries" from the book "Coming Home".

Her new book is to be released in the Fall and I have my eye on this quilt...

I loved all her quilts and took many photos, but I'll leave you with some pictures of the ones that come out best.

There were other featured Australian quilters with beautiful work.

This doll's bed is adorable...

And because 'I needed' some fabrics, I purchased this cute collection of shirting designed by Jo Morton.
