I want to share with you some of the fantastic quilts I saw yesterday in Melbourne, Australia. The 2011 Victorian Quilters Inc displayed over 300 traditional, innovative and art quilts by members from miniature to queen-size.
My photos were a glimpse of these quilts but one had to be there to appreciate the high standard of these quilts.
Some of my favourites are below, but for more images click on the right hand side of this page (above my photo) the label VICTORIAN QUILT SHOWCASE 2011.

Show 'n Tell Gift Quilts
I have more time on weekends to quilt and I always get very inspired looking at everyone's blogs showing their achievements. As I haven't finished anything yet this week so I'm going to share with you some of the quilts I have made for friends and family in the past few years. The majority of these are now in different parts of the world and are being loved...
For this quilt (28" x 36") I used Mary Sue's Triangle Ruler. Its super easy and accurate.
I made this quilt for my cousin's 50th birthday.
This quilt was very easy as well.... a technique new to me at the time. Made it for my neighbour.
Another 50th birthday quilt for the another cousin...
This one was all machine pieced and applique, for my aunt.
I always enjoy using my scraps... made for a dear friend on her first visit to Australia.
Made for one of my nephews when he was born...

Basket Quilt is finished
My week off work has been very productive.
I made this wall hanging from my stash of bright fabrics and the pattern is from McCall's Quilting magazine (July/Aug 2011).
Its fused applique and secured with machine blanket stitch with colour coordinated threads.
This is block 12 of the Barbara Brackman weekly blog that I'm still trying to catch up.
And a very small utilitarian item, a shoe bag for my daughter.
She helped me with the construction.
She has her own blog to document her own interests...

Summer Baskets
As I promised myself this week, I'm spending some hours sewing or being inspired by things quilty.
My friend come over for a few hours to play with my Go-Cutter and went home with a pile of squares for her next project. While she did that I started a new quilt...
At this stage I have cut out all the pieces for the 9 blocks ...
As a big fan of smooth jazz I have just found out that guitarist Jeff Golub, a versatile Ohio guitarist who has performed with top rock stars and carved a niche for himself in contemporary jazz, has gone blind. He was diagnosed with a collapse of the optic nerve.
Here is a great classic version that he did "On the Beach" from the album "Do it again"

I'm still trying to catch up on the backlog of the blocks from Barbara Brackman's blog, so here's another done done.
And now some music...

Quilt for my friend
Earlier in the year I made this quilt top and today I completed the binding. I'm giving this quilt to my friend who's having a birthday next month and moving to his new home.
I hope he likes it...

I'm taking a week off work so I'm hoping to have some quilting achievements each day...

I attended the Patchworkers & Quilter's Guild of Victoria (Australia) Inc. exhibition this morning.
They had a wonderful selection of quilts, too many to show you all. So here's a sample of their outstanding quilts.
